Principal Brian Salzer officially announced his resignation today, effective after the 2008-2009 school year on June 30.
In his Principal’s Perspective e-mail sent to parents and students, Salzer said that he would not continue as South’s principal for the 2009-2010 school year, explaining that he resigned early in order “to allow the search process for [his] replacement to begin.â€
Salzer first made public the possibility of leaving on Dec. 4 . In another Principal’s Perspective e-mail, he announced he was interviewing for superintendent and assistant superintendent positions in other school districts. In this e-mail, Salzer noted that though he enjoys the role of principal, he is “interested in investigating opportunities to increase [his] leadership role in a school district.â€
As for the future, Salzer explained that he has “a great deal of respect for our school and [feels] it is important to start this process in a timely manner so we can recruit the finest candidates.â€
Salzer was one of three finalists in November for the superintendent’s position in Whitman-Hansen. He had also applied to Lynn , but later withdrew his candidacy.
Salzer is in this third year as South principal, after taking over from interim Principal Brenda Keegan in 2006.
The superintendent will appoint a new principal on April 6, after a search process that will take several months. Faculty and parents will form a Selection Advisory Committee that will begin meeting Feb. 24 and advise Superintendent Jeffrey Young.
